Detection Methodology

Picture™-MAX

Polymer Detection Kits

Our Picture™-MAX Polymer Detection Kits feature enhanced peroxidase conjugation techniques and another secondary antibody to increase target antigen sensitivity with minimal background signal.
The higher sensitivity yields intense and specific IHC staining results for proteins localized in all parts of the cell, most notably the nucleus, cytoplasm, and the membrane area. Picture™-MAX kits also allow a greater primary antibody dilution and more dependable results. The bulk kits include either the AEC or DAB chromogen for even greater value.

SuperPicture

Polymer Detection Kits

The SuperPicture™ Polymer Detection Kits feature Invitrogen’s proprietary and enhanced HRP polymer technology to provide excellent sensitivity, high specificity, and a shorter protocol than conventional immunohistochemical staining methods. The SuperPicture™ Polymer Kits contain neither biotin nor streptavidin like the conventional LAB-SA, so potential background due to endogenous biotin activity
is completely avoided. Another advantage of Invitrogen’s SuperPicture™ polymer detection system is the shorter polymer incubation time; the SuperPicture™ system only requires 10 minutes, while leading competitors’ polymers require 30 minutes.

LAB-SA

Labeled [strept]Avidin-Biotin

The LAB-SA method uses an affinity-purified, biotinylated secondary antibody and a streptavidinenzyme conjugate (no complex formation is required) to detect a primary antibody that is bound to a cell or tissue antigen. A chromogenic reaction is then performed to visualize the location of the antigen/antibody/enzyme complex.

LAB-SA-based kits are more sensitive, faster, and cleaner, and require fewer steps than ABC-based kits, which were developed in 1981.1,2,3 Due to this higher performance, LAB-SA kits are preferable to ABC.

We later introduced 2ndGen LAB-SA kits, which use enhanced LAB-SA components and offer significantly higher sensitivity than the original kits. Histostain®-Plus and Cap-Plus™ kits all use Invitrogen’s 2ndGen LAB-SA technology.

Broad Spectrum

Broad Spectrum refers to the reactivity of biotinylated secondary antibodies that react strongly with mouse, rabbit, and guinea pig immunoglobulins, and moderately with rat immunoglobulins. One Broad Spectrum kit can be used for all your primary antibodies. All Broad Spectrum Histostain® Kits are designed for use with human tissue samples — call us for advice on staining tissue from other species.

Histostain® Kits

Histostain® kits are excellent general-purpose IHC detection kits that use LAB-SA technology. These kits can be used on human tissue or cell samples in either manual or automated IHC applications. Contact us about using these kits on nonhuman samples. Histostain®-Plus kits use enhanced components and offer superior sensitivity. Histostain®-SP and Histostain®-SAP kits offer exceptional value.

Cap-Plus™ Kits

for Capillary Gap Immunostainers

The Cap-Plus™ kits were developed to use on capillary gap immunohistostainers, including the Ventana® Techmate™ Automated Immunostaining Systems and the Fisher Microprobe Staining System. Invitrogen’s 2ndGen LAB-SA technology produces superior sensitivity and minimal background.

Picture™-Double Staining Kit

The Picture™-Double Staining Kit is a unique kit that uses Invitrogen’s proprietary enhancer to doublestain a combination of mouse/rat, and rabbit/guinea pig antibodies on human tissue.

Cell Proliferation Kits

Invitrogen has developed staining kits for detecting two of the most commonly used cell proliferation markers: BrdU and PCNA. Kits work for both human and nonhuman tissue/cell samples.

HistoMouse™ and HistoMouse™-MAX Kits

Unique kits for the detection of mouse primary antibodies in mouse tissue without causing background due to endogenous immunoglobulin.
